James Pennay – Managing Director
James Pennay's professional career of 20 years includes 16 years in the global renewable energy industry. He has pioneered large-scale wind power projects and portfolios in England, China and Australia, as well as initiating some of Queensland’s largest and most innovative solar photovoltaic (Oakey Solar) and solar thermal (Solar Dawn) projects. He also has experience with Queensland’s biomass sector.
James established CleanSight in 2010 with a view to commercialising and securing value in clean energy projects and technologies. He previously held senior positions at Wind Prospect in China, Australia, Canada and the UK, with roles spanning commercial, financial, technical, planning and environment, and innovation fields.
Throughout his career, James has been committed to successfully identifying and executing commercial opportunities in the clean technology sector. This is highlighted by James’ five years of work in clean energy in China, his role as a founding Board Member of the China Carbon Forum and as a former Board Member of the Australian Wind Energy Association (now Clean Energy Council). Major industry awards for which he was a key player included the British Wind Energy Association’s “Developer’s Developer” award (2003), for the east of England wind power project development, and Project Finance magazine’s Asia-Pacific Wind Deal of the Year 2013, for Boco Rock Wind Farm. He holds an Engineering (honours) and Business degrees from Queensland University of Technology.
Sandy Vigar – Strategic Planning and Development Advisor
Sandy is a planning and environmental specialist with over 35 years of private sector and government experience in Australia, with a focus on major developments in Queensland, including infrastructure and energy projects such as downstream LNG at Gladstone. She holds qualifications in planning, environmental management and business administration and has served as Queensland and National President of the Royal Australian Planning Institute (now the Planning Institute of Australia). Sandy is an Adjunct Professor in the school of Geography, Planning and Environmental Management at The University of Queensland.
Jane Daniels – Stakeholder Engagement Manager
Jane Daniels has a wealth of experience in managing impact assessments and community and stakeholder consultation, with 15 years of professional experience working across the Asia-Pacific region for the United Nations, the Australian Government, NGOs and contractors. Jane helps shape CleanSight’s strategic direction while also leading comprehensive programs of stakeholder, staff and contractor engagement.
Sonia Uranishi – Community Engagement Manager
Sonia is an engagement and communications professional with more than 18 years of experience working with a range of community, government and corporate stakeholders. With a foundation in PR consulting at one of Queensland’s largest agencies, Sonia also draws from experiences in senior positions with Queensland Government, the Governor of Queensland and in international roles, in her work with CleanSight. She is skilled at understanding diverse audiences and tailoring communication and critical information to meet their needs.
Martin Pennay – Finance Director
Martin has over 20 years’ experience in the global energy and metal industries. He was a Managing Director at industry leader, Goldman Sachs, for the last 11 of these years, prior to pursuing private equity investments. He is well regarded within the industry for structuring complex commodity production projects, building commodity markets, building sales teams and for understanding commodity price risk. He has also been active in developing hedge fund and institutional investor participation in commodity markets and assisting corporate clients with funding solutions.
